CAPTAIN’S COMMENTS
Well, this is a big one ……..
- Next week 1st August, we have the first of two rounds for the Vets Championship (1st and 8th). This is a stroke event (Gross and Net) in two grades – 0-15 and 16-36. Cost to play is $20. As well as the card for the stroke round you are also requested to complete a separate Stableford card as you are in the regular competition. Please note to be eligible to play in this event you need to have played in 6 home or away games this year
- If you don’t wish to play in the Championship, then it is just like any other Monday. Turn up, pay your $10 and see how it goes with a single Stableford.
- The following week (8th) it’s the second round of the championship at a further cost of $20. This covers the single Stableford as prior week.
- If you are swerving the championship, then just the same as before but the cost is $20! not $10…………. Gasp
The committee discussed this, and it was decided we wanted to continue the tradition of offering a snack and a few drinks after the champs and with fields being down this year it necessitated a small surcharge. Hence the price rise from last year. - Now in addition on the 1st August we have the $25 prize for NTP on 15th. This has been donated by Brittany of Mind & Motion Exercise Physiology.
- The Vets District Championship – not the one above, is being hosted by Peregian again this year on the 22nd August. This is a big deal and attached is the flyer which gives you an idea how big. The cost is subsidized by the Vets so you don’t pay the $35 entry fee. However, if you are a lifestyle member you will still have to pay your usual green fee. Spaces are limited, I’m convinced we will be oversubscribed. To make this as fair as I can, we will allow the Vets Club Champions 2022 (A and B Grade) to have a free pass into the District Championship should they want it. Everyone else will be decided by games played, the more you have the greater your chance. (1st Jan 2022 to 26th July 2022). We will maintain a reserve list in the event of pull outs etc.
Please send me an email if you wish to play. Close date is 1st August. On the 2nd I will send out the players that have been selected and those on the waitlist. Of course, I will reserve the two slots for the championship result and advise when these are known and if there is an impact on the waitlist. - We will also require volunteers on the day. As an official volunteer you will be assigned a duty e.g. spotter and can purchase the events raffle tickets and enjoy the complimentary lunch. I will call for volunteers after we have sorted out the players etc so please no emails on this just yet.
- Almost done, just a friendly reminder if you aren’t feeling well or have a cold/cough always err on the side of caution.
- Right after all of that, I would like to ask this:
DO YOU FEEL LIKE A MUG?
Well, the vets have an answer…………………………
A bespoke Peregian Springs Men’s Monthly Mug* will be available on a monthly basis (until stocks run out). August’s Mug will be awarded to the highest Stableford Score recorded on the 1st August. September’s criteria will be a whole lot different, just wait and see.
* Beer not included. OK that’s it, time for a lie down.

Captains Comments
After round one of the big bird challenge we have a lead of 66 points. (552-486). While we can wallow in self satisfaction let’s not forget we do this at our peril and with one round to go (28th November), anything can happen, the game is in two halves etc etc.
Next week it looks like we will don our mask and flippers again but if it’s not too bad we will have a team game.
Finally I have noticed we are getting a few cards not being handed in or incomplete so they can’t be used for scoring and handicaps. Clearly if there is a reason for this, no problem, but simply a poor round isn’t one of those reasons.
Have a good week

Captains Comments
What is happening to the B grade?? 34 points winning $50, that’s ~$1.50 per point.
Anyway, looking forward, we have the Pelican host day and hopefully 1st round of the Big Bird Trophy next week. They have sent me a list of 50 people with more on the waitlist so you need to sign up as early as possible and before Saturday if you want a game. Once I can estimate our players (around Friday) I will advise Pelican if they can have a few more places. As this week we have the whole course so we should still get around in 4 hours.
Week after we will have a team game and then the week after that it’s the Vets Club Championship, the last individual major of the year (1st and 8th August) so get your game in tip top shape!
QUIZ CORNER
Guess who’s bag is sitting in the bunker? First person to answer correctly receives $40* from Dale.
*Just be careful when you ask for it, I suggest running shoes are in order.
Cheers

NEWSLETTER 4 JULY 2022
Another washout, but a great lunch at the club. A few lucky raffle winners as well so all in all not too bad.
Thanks to all the people who sent in texts etc cancelling before I sent out the email cancelling the event. It’s always a bit of a judgement call and we always want to play a game so I usually run it down to the last minute i.e. 7am Monday.
While we are on the subject of cancellations we had a bit of a mess last week at Maroochy, I was away and had messed up a few things which Garry and Mal tried to sort out, added to that the Maroochy Capt was ill and the system at Maroochy is more “club run” so less flexible than our shambles. So enough excuses from me, but we did get a couple of people trapped in the maroochy system and they had to pay the full price of the cart as their playing partner didn’t turn up. Whilst Peregian will let the host player pay for 1/2 of the cart in such circumstances it’s not like that at maroochy. Bottom line if you have to pull out, please tell me and I will make every effort to ensure we have full carts only on the day. On a lighter note I have a few balls to give out from this event which I’ll try to do over the coming weeks.
Next week we host Nambour and as mentioned previously we now allow Lady Vets of the visiting club to play on host days. There is 1 listed to play. I will be doing a headcount of the ladies prior to the start, so anyone thinking of coming in a dress and playing off the red tees will be discovered.
The committee was active as there was no golf and you will be delighted to know we came up with a few things. Highlights below
The AGM will be held on Monday 7th November
The XMAS function will be on Saturday 10th December
We are introducing a special prize, a Peregian Springs Glass Beer Mug which will be played for once a month. Details to follow.
TheVets Championship remains the 1st and 8th August but due to the loss of games and therefore revenue there will be an additional charge of $10 to play on the 8th. The $10 is to offset the cost of a light lunch and a drink , so all in all still a good deal. Anyway details nearer the time.
That’s it from Me
Cheers
Mike
