ABOUT
GENERAL INFORMATION
INTRODUCTION
We are a group of golfers who play at the Peregian Springs Golf Club as members, which entitles us to a handicap through the Peregian Springs Golf Club. Our objective is to engender a strong camaraderie within the group, and to provide competitions exclusive to us and which are in addition to the those competitions supplied by the management of the Peregian Springs Golf Club.
REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN PEREGIAN VETS GOLF
You must be 55 or over with an official golf handicap and be a member at Peregian Springs Golf Club. If you haven’t a handicap you can play in singles events (not team events) but are ineligible for any prizes including the Nearest the Pin (NTP) while you establish a handicap. (It takes 3 social games)
Playing Days
We play on a Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 am (except Public Holiday Mondays, where it is a single tee start). Sign up for this through the Peregian Springs Golf Club website. No need to worry with whom you play or at what time as your Committee do a draw before the game and choose who plays in which group.
We do this for 2 primary reasons:
- To ensure people are mixed up each week giving you a chance to meet a lot of Vets over time
- To ensure everyone has a lift with one of our Vets with their own cart. (No walkers are allowed). The exception to this is if we have a one or two tee start (exceptional) and if we are 100% certain it will be carts on paths well in advance of the Monday (exceptional).
To make this easier for the Committee it is essential you sign up before 4pm on the Saturday preceding the game. After this time, you can’t be guaranteed a space, however, contact the Captain via SMS or phone call (not the Peregian Springs Golf Club or it’s website) and he will endeavour to accommodate your request. Likewise, if you wish to pull out after Saturday 4pm an SMS/Phone call to the Captain, Bob Walters. (0416 267 422).
The draw will be sent out via email on the Sunday around midday. When you arrive on a Monday (registration closes at 8:00 AM), visit the registration area to pay your competition fee and we will introduce you to your playing partner. First time it’s best to arrive early to avoid any rush.
Each month we plan to have at least one team event to avoid burnout from the regular Single Stableford.
Special Events
The Vets have several events during the year. The major one is the Christmas Party where food and drink are complimentary with a small charge for your partner should they wish to attend. Since space is limited priority will be given to those who have played the most games during the year.
Other events include the Patrons Plate (April), Vets Championship (August), Red Skins (December). To play in these events you are required to play in ½, 1/3, 1/3 of the regular games that year prior to the event. Then depending on funds, we try to offer free food and drinks after the game.
Vets Playing Fees
In January each year there is a $20 annual subscription fee for Vets membership covering National, State and District Vets playing rights.
Weekly home Vets games are set as follows:
- Cart Owners/Hirers : $20 ($10 for the Comp Fee and $10 for Raffle Tickets)
- Non Cart Owners/Hirers: $25 ($10 for the Comp Fee, $10 for Raffle Tickets and $5 Cart Fee).
Vets Raffle
Each week we have a Vets Raffle. For many of us this is a highlight of the day.
The results are announced at the Presentation after the game. It is an essential component of the Vets income. The complimentary food and drinks offered at Vets’ Events during the year are almost entirely funded by the Raffle income.
Home/Away District Games
Normally we visit and host 11 other Sunshine Coast District Clubs during the year. Typically, the away games carry a cost of around $40 which covers the cart, green fees and the hosting club’s competition fees. It is expected you find your way there and back at your own cost.
District Competitions
During the year we have 5 District Games, each with a different format and hosting golf course. These events have restricted numbers and if necessary, the Captain will decide who plays. Announcements will be done during normal game days and through the weekly Newsletter. The Vets subsidise the green fees for these events but not carts or food.
Peregian Vets Golf shirts
During Vets games you are expected to wear a Vets Shirt. To standardise the look, we recommend you source these from
The Monogram Man
Shop 2A Norval Crs Maroochydore (off Maud St)
Phone: 5479 3206
Simply advise them you need a Peregian Vets shirt and provide correct spelling of your name and you are away. Cost of the shirt + embroidery is approx. $50 for short sleeve, a bit more if you prefer a long sleeve variety. Please request the best quality shirt they have (same price).
Contact
This website is an important source of information for our members.
Each week we publish our “Newsletters/Results” with plans for future games and also our calendar of “Events”.
We also ask all Vets to save my email address [email protected] and mobile number 0416 267 422 in your phone in case you need to contact me at any time.

HISTORY
BACKGROUND
Peregian Springs Private Members Golf Course – par 72, 18 hole golf course.
This golf course opened on 16 December 2003 as a private members club with access to the facilities limited to members and their guests.
The course was created to be the centrepiece of the Peregian Springs residential development.
Facilities included golf course, pro shop, club house, bar, dining areas, men’s and ladies spa, steam rooms as well as a gymnasium.
A limited amount of shares were advertised for sale. Membership joining fees were $10,000 for a single 7 day membership. Other memberships were set out as a family membership, or corporate membership. Price of membership rose over the years to finally be $25,000 for a single 7 day membership and other categories membership fee followed.
The share purchased entitled a member to full membership as an asset that was fully transferable and could be later sold, bequeathed or nominated for another person to take over the playing rights.
Aveo (formerly FKP Limited is the main shareholder ) and is listed as a corporate member and therefore residents of the Peregian Springs Retirement village (built and owned by FKP) were able to play at a reduced cost.
Ron Jadach was Peregian Springs Golf Club’s first General Manager.
2004
The estate was starting to expand quickly with families building homes and ladies of the estate got together and introduced a monthly luncheon enabling wives/partners of the golfers to get together to form friendships.
As this group was only for wives/partners of members or those living in the estate, the men came up with an idea to form a group, play golf and call the group – “The Deserted Husbands”.
This was a small group of “mature” gentlemen who decided to form a group to regularly play golf together.
Each month the men would play a game of golf and then head to the BBQ area at the Duck ponds in The Avenue to enjoy a very long windup to their game.
The comraderie of this group grew and soon about 10 – 12 attended this social event. The day was organised by playing the game, someone was designated to buy the sausages and others organised to buy the “liquid refreshments”.
David Youens was the instigator and therefore was declared Captain. Glenn Martin was used as his replacement when he was not available to organise the group. David’s health was not good so he asked Glenn Martin to take on the role of Captain of the group. Glenn was Captain for the following 2 years.
This monthly event continued for quite a while and then our General Manager, Ron Jadach explained that this was a group within a group and asked that they rethink their events and venue and suggested they play golf and then go back to the club for the celebrations. The group decided that this was right way to support the club.
After about 12 months of forming this group, and suggestion from Ron Jadach, a decision was made to approach Queensland Golf Vets to seek permission to join the group and enable our newly formed group to visit other vet groups and in turn invite them to play on our course.
The first Committee was formed of Captain- David Youens & Committee members – John Parsonage, Chris McGuinn, John Favier, Glenn Martin
From 2003 – 2005 no written information was found but from information gathered from founding members the following is our record of Office Bearers and Committees during that time.
In 2005, Peregian Springs was accepted to be part of the District Vets but as the playing calendar had already been drawn up for 2005 the group played together each Monday on their home course and set up their Committee.
In 2006, the calendar included the Peregian Springs Vets and they happily visited other courses and hosted Vets on our course.
As our prestigious course was presented to other Vets groups in the region it wasn’t long before we had a strong interest from other clubs to play at our course.
COURSE CLOSURE
Administrators were called in and within a month the course was closed.
THE PEREGIAN SPRINGS GOLF CLUB closed suddenly on 22 July 2016.
After negotiations, the Course reopened again on 14 December, 2016 and is now known as PEREGIAN GOLF COURSE.
Club competitions started on 4 January 2017.

In 2011, after the major floods in South East Queensland they decided to raise money to help people in Grantham who had been affected. Barry Miller suggested a wine auction. Vets bought along wine to be auctioned. Darryl (Daz) Innes was auctioneer and they raised a bit over $6000. Richard Broomhead donated a bottle of Grange and in the end bought it back again for $800. A great outcome for the auction.

VETS WORKING BEE GROUP
Early in 2000’s some dedicated vets got together and decided to offer assistance to ground staff to help maintain the golf course. This was greatly appreciated by the ground staff.
The working bees were held once a month and afterwards vets shared coffee or lunch together at the club. These men worked happily alongside the groundsmen clearing trees, filling divot holes, mowing and clearing around water ways and paths. Jockey John (John Parsonage), Stu Blyth and others used to co ordinate with members present.
Other members researched things that needed doing like painting the inside of the tunnel, touching up hazard lines on paths or setting out chores for the day. After a few years some vets resigned from this working group and others joined forming the “Dad’s Army group”.
Original working party members in early 2005 were – Stu Blyth, John Parsonage, Glenn Martin, Bernie Ross, Derek Corlett, Neville Middlewick, Gerald Webber and others.
LIST OF VET MEMBERS WHO WERE PART OF THE WORKING BEE from 2015 (known as “Dad’s Army”)

PATRONS PLATE
In 2008, the Committee asked Paddy Millar to become Patron of the Peregian Springs Vets.
Paddy was honoured to be asked and a date was set up to play for the inaugural Patrons Plate.
This was hotly contested and the winner received a silver plate – a perpetual trophy and a putter was also donated by Paddy as a keepsake.
Paddy resigned due to ill health and John Crossley took the position of Patron of Peregian Vets from 2019.
